Cambridge Works

Byron's Pool Woodland

This was a bright early January morning. It was cold, but the sunshine really warmed the ground and generated a feeling of hope and optimism for the new year ahead.

Original acrylic painting on a 30 cm x 40 cm canvas board. Framed in painted gold.

I love painting in Cambridge because it's such a beautiful and unique city. It has so much history and the architecture is some of the best in the world. It additionally has so many green spaces, allowing nature to thrive.

For these reasons,  I feel any painting associated with Cambridge or the surrounding area is special.

Botanic gardens
cambridge

The BOTANIC GARDENS hold so much personal significance. I first visited as a very young child, then two of my schools overlooked them and now my children love to play there. It's easy to take such a space for granted when you're from Cambridge, but is truly is such an exquisite and unique space.

Punting and Pimm's

A lazy summer's day on the River Cam. Punters are idling down the river and there's joy in the air.

This is framed in painted green rustic wood.

SUNSET OVER

ST JOHNS PLAYING FIELDS

The view from Queen's Road, overlooking St.John's Playing Fields. It was an early evening in June and 'golden hour' was spectacular. I especially loved the contrast between the brilliant sun and the striped shadows of the trees here.

Original acrylic painting on a 24 inch x 24 inch deep-edged canvas. Framed in dark wood.

Wisteria
on Orchard Street

I've always loved this quaint little street anyway, but it truly comes alive in May, when the wisteria blooms. The whole street is bathed in a sea of purple and the effect is quite magical.

Original acrylic painting on a 60cm x 60cm stretched canvas. It's framed in lilac (wisteria!) coloured painted wood.

Wisteria on
Orchard Street II

This painting really says Cambridge to me- the wisteria in full bloom and a bike casually locked up against the railings at the corner of Orchard Street. The wisteria on this highly photographed street of Cambridge truly is spectacular in April and May.

Original acrylic painting on a 50 x 60 cm canvas.

Unframed, although I offer the option of framing it for you.

Cambridge Wisteria III

The third and final painting in my wisteria series.  This stunning blue haze was growing on the wall of a house on Grafton Street. It really brings a whole road to life, reminding everyone that summer is on the way.

Original acrylic painting on a 60 cm x  71 cm canvas. Unframed, although I am happy to frame for you, if required.

Botanic Gardens Trees

This was on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year, although at this point in the morning, there was still a degree of crispness in the air. I can recall there being so much green everywhere- and so many different shades of green throughout the garden.

Original acrylic painting on a 18 x 24 inch canvas. Framed in painted cream.

King's Parade, CAmbridge

One of the most iconic streets in Cambridge, bustling with locals and tourists. These buildings have such character and are home to galleries, cafés and boutique shops. They also face the magnificent King's College.

Original acrylic painting on a 50cm x 55cm stretched canvas. Frames in painted blue wood.

Wimpole estate

This was the old entrance to Wimpole Estate. I feel very nostalgic seeing this, as in my lifetime, I must have visited hundreds of times, starting as a very young child. I love the rising morning mist in this picture and the old-fashioned phone box, which I think at one point was placed further down the road.

Original acrylic painting on a 20 x 30 inch deep edged canvas. Framed in wood.
